Senior police inspector of Vikhroli, S Gaikwad, said, “In all the cases where bikes have been burnt, the culprits struck between 2am and 4am. In all cases, petrol from the fuel tank of the bikes was used to set them on fire. All cases have occurred in residential areas.”

He added, “In such instances, normally, it is someone from the area who has a score to settle. Hence, in spite of the similarity in the modus operandi used in these cases, we are first trying to interrogate locals. There is a possibility that there may be different people involved in each case.”

DCP (Zone VII) Sanjay Shintre added that along with the local elements they were also investigating the pattern of these instances in the eastern and central suburbs.
