If you wish to build a second home in the Konkan region, this is a good time because the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) plans to sell 250 such plots at subsidised rates. These plots, ranging from 50 to 200 sqm, are located in places such as Malvan, Oras and Roha. The rates of these plots range from Rs2 lakh onwards.

According to a senior MHADA official, the whole aim is to dispose of these vacant plots.
“Currently, the Konkan region is in great demand and there is a growing demand from the native people especially those who are settled in Mumbai for plots,” said the official. He said the sale would ensure a good income to the Mhada exchequer and also set it free from maintenance. Mhada will issue application forms within a month and a lottery will be held in case of multiple entries.
Buyers are also enthused by the news.
“Mhada has a good track record in Mumbai and I had always dreamt of having my own house in the Konkan region, which is currently the hottest destination,” said Prasanna Desai, an accountant working at the private firm in the city.
“Mhada’s rates are quite affordable and I can construct any house, even a small one, within my budget,” he added. He said the main advantage is that Mhada plots have clear titles unlike private properties.
