In what may be seen as lack of planning and farsightedness by the civic body, the ambitious slum development programme that was announced in February has been stalled mid-way.

Under the project, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) surveyed slums pockets across all city wards to study their civic requirements. However, because of the lack of a common methodology, every ward has a different survey report, which the administration is now struggling to collate and analyse.
Result: the project has been pushed to next year.
As part of its Integrated Slum Development Programme launched in the 2014-15 budget, the BMC conducted an audit in every slum pocket in each ward for the first time to record the extent of civic amenities that exist. To identify the disparity in infrastructure, the BMC needs to study the gap between the existing facilities and the requirement.
