Mumbai: Digital mapping of water lines in 2 wards nears end

The mapping, expected to complete in the next two months, will help the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) spot leakages, prevent damage to water mains during any work and in laying new pipelines.

The BMC is almost through with the digital mapping of water mains in two wards — H-west (Bandra, Khar) and T (Mulund).

The mapping, expected to complete in the next two months, will help the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) spot leakages, prevent damage to water mains during any work and in laying new pipelines.

The BMC has started the 10-point water distribution improvement programme (WDIP) at a cost of Rs250 crore. It was started as a pilot project in the two wards in 2013.

After its completion, the WDIP is expected to be extended in the other wards as well. The idea is to survey all the water mains and ensure equal distribution of water by developing a cell for water distribution.

The updated data on the water lines will be available to the BMC at a single click of the button.

The progress of the digital mapping is going to be tabled in the standing committee on Wednesday.
