The makers of the popular mobile phone application Traffline have launched a new public transport application called Ridlr, which will allow users to draw up detailed plans for their commutes, in advance.

Soon, the application will also have a ‘report’ feature, using which users can report disruptions or incidents on a real-time basis.

Ridlr, created by Birds Eye Systems Private Limited, was launched on Tuesday by BK Upadhyay, joint commissioner of police (traffic), along with civic activist Indrani Malkani.

“As a traffic policeman, I am happy that this application will help commuters, allowing them to avoid traffic jams,” said Upadhyay.

Ridlr is available on Android platforms above 4.0. Users can also sign up using their Facebook or Twitter accounts. Ridlr also gives the user the three fastest routes from one point in the city to another. Apart from issuing an estimated time of arrival, the application also offers a break-up, providing the walking distance from a railway station or a bus stop to the destination in question.

Using ‘Hop on,’ the special feature of the application, commuters can track the location of the bus or train in real time.

The application also provides offline timetables for trains, buses the monorail and the metro. While the application is now available in Mumbai and Pune, the team said it will cover 15 major cities in a few months.
