The massive consignment of party drug amphetamine, seized recently from a courier firm in Andheri, had come to the city from Chennai, said police.

The Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) on the Mumbai police had on September 25 seized 84 kg of the banned substance worth around Rs 8.4 crore, from the international courier firm. The contraband was kept in four cardboard boxes covered with tattoo stickers, and was being sent to Malaysia.
A senior crime branch official told HT on Monday that the consignment had been booked at the company by a person identified as Ramesh from Chennai. The police don't have many details about Ramesh, except that he had sent similar consignments in the past. The Mumbai police have alerted their counterparts in Chennai, who are on the lookout for Ramesh.
The official said that the consignment had been split into two batches and came to Mumbai by air and road. The courier firm later alerted the police about the contraband. "We are trying to find out who the intended recipients in Malaysia were," the official said.
The September 25 amphetamine seizure is one of the biggest drug seizures by the ANC in a decade.
