Raju Gaur, 25, may have kidnapped 4-year-old Sangeeta Pawar from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) to sell her at Haridwar, the Government Railway Police (GRP) officials, said.

GS Bhandare, deputy commissioner of police, GRP, Central Railway, said, “We are questioning the accused about why he decided to go to Haridwar with the child.” “Haridwar is a pilgrimage spot. The Bhopal resident may have thought begging with a child would help him earn more money. We suspect he wanted to sell Sangeeta. We are checking if he was part of any such racket,” said an officer on condition of anonymity.
The GRP officials had initially ruled out the begging angle in the case. They had said that Gaur, who was unmarried, wanted to raise Pawar as his own child.
The Haridwar police traced Gaur on July 7 after news channels aired the CCTV footage showing how the girl was kidnapped on June 10. Gaur will remain in police custody till Wednesday.
