Soon, four FOBs to link monorail, suburban trains

Integrating the upcoming monorail with the city’s suburban network, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced four foot overbridges (FOBs) that will connect stations across the two transport systems.

The first such FOB, which will be 250m long and four metres wide, will come up at Chembur and will connect the monorail station to the suburban one on the eastern side.

Similar FOBs are being planned at Wadala, connecting the monorail to the suburban station on the Harbour line, at Currey Road, linking it to the Central Railway, and from the Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk monorail station to the Mahalaxmi station on the Western Railway.

Once the monorail is operational, the FOBs will help commuters switch between the suburban and monorail networks with ease, thus taking the load of the city’s locals and enhancing connectivity.

The project will cost the MMRDA more than Rs15 crore.

The monorail project is being built by Larsen and Toubro and Scomi Engineering at a cost of Rs2,450 crore.
