Swachh Bharat: Cops, GRP take up the broom across Mumbai

The Mumbai police force and the GRP spent Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, by organising a cleanliness drive, as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

The Mumbai police force and the Government Railway Police (GRP) spent Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, by organising a cleanliness drive, as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

While the GRP cleaned up police stations, the garbage dump located in the premise of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Western Railway (WR) was left untouched. The same premise also houses the office of the deputy police commissioner, GRP (WR).

The GRP commissioner started the drive after an oath-taking ceremony at the railway police headquarters. All the GRP stations were asked to conduct drives at their level.

When asked about the garbage dump at DCP WR’s office, Ritesh Aher, GRP spokesperson, said: “The premise belongs to the railways and we have rented out space there. The routine cleaning and other activities are also conducted by the railways.”

Students of National Service Scheme and National Cadet Corps assisted the police in the initiative.
