A 60-year-old man was found hanging in his residence at Thane on Wednesday.
The police said Bhimrao Bhandare, who took voluntary retirement after working at a private company, left a suicide note in which he said he committed suicide because he was fed up of rising prices.
The note also stated that the government was responsible for it. The Vartaknagar police station registered an accidental death report.
“The preliminary report said he died of asphyxiation due to hanging. We will send the suicide note to a handwriting,’ said Ashok Morale, deputy commissioner of police (zone V).
Bhandare’s body was found by his youngest son Sachin, 23, after he returned from work.
“I and my eldest brother Ajay were away at work. When I came back around 8:30pm, the door was locked from inside. Despite knocking, there was no response. I got suspicious, broke open the door and found him,” said Sachin who works in the sales department of a mall.
The Bhandares had shifted to a rented room in a chawl (Mathura society) around a week ago. His family said he had not shown any signs of depression.
“He did not get a pension. The money he got after retirement was spent on paying debts. He would speak about inflation whenever it came on the news channels. But we never took it seriously,” said Sachin.
