Contemporary band Kultcher to perform in Mumbai

Contemporary R&B band, Kultcher, mixes hip-hop and neo-soul with Indian classical music. The band (formerly known as &drews) also features Umang Doshi on keyboards, guitarist Roland Fernandes, Joshua Rodrigues as bassist, drummer Gautam Sharma and Vinay Venkatesh on percussions.

If you like bands that transcend musical barriers, you might want to check out the newest one on the block — Kultcher. The only outfit in the city to pursue contemporary R&B, tonight you can watch them sprinkle elements of Indian classical music as they perform hip-hop, jazz, funk and neo-soul numbers.

“We only do original music. This evening, we will also perform a couple of Hindi tracks besides English ones,” says Thomson Andrews, vocalist.

The band (formerly known as &drews) also features Umang Doshi on keyboards, guitarist Roland Fernandes, Joshua Rodrigues as bassist, drummer Gautam Sharma and Vinay Venkatesh on percussions.

The six-member outfit occasionally includes Ryan D’Souza, Josemund Menezes and Pallavi Roy as back-up vocalists. “We will also have Keshia Braganza singing with us as a guest artiste tonight,” Andrews adds.

With its band members coming from diverse musical backgrounds, Kultcher aims at achieving a sound that’s not only versatile but also uniquely Indian, “We don’t want to ape western artistes. Rather, we want to incorporate a musical style that belongs to us. At the same time, we don’t want to perform ‘fusion’ music because the band’s core identity lies in R&B,” explains Andrew, who also composes and writes songs for the band.
