“We hear so many negative things about this country in the news, but India has an interesting mix of culture, energy and the friendliness of people, which is amazing,” says Dyk, who predicts that the country will soon be a global destination for Electronic Dance Music (EDM).

In line with Dyk’s prediction, one of the most popular global EDM fests — Tomorrowland — is coming here soon. “India has all the right ingredients for EDM to get big here,” says the 48-year-old German DJ, who has been to India a few times before. “I first came here 15 years ago. And I remember I was in a Bollywood studio, where one guy played this groovy beat. The song later went on to become one of the top numbers in Europe,” he says.

However, Dyk feels that the reason why EDM will specifically do well here is because this form of music has a global culture, and India will surely influence the scene internationally. He explains, “Every time I have played here in the last 15 years, the audiences have only gotten bigger and better.”
