Fusion beats at Mood Indigo

After announcing that French-Canadian rock band Simple Plan will headline the music event at their annual festival, Mood-Indigo, students from IIT-Bombay are now busy prepping for putting other acts together.

After announcing that French-Canadian rock band Simple Plan will headline the music event at their annual festival, Mood-Indigo, students from IIT-Bombay are now busy prepping for putting other acts together.

This year, the festival will see an all-new series of international unedited musical performances called the MI Studio. The event will comprise both Indian and international artists who will collaborate and come up with a unique fusion-based composition, exclusively for the festival. “Originally we used to have a stand-alone event, with performances from all over the world. This time, we decided to add a twist to the event by getting foreign artistes to collaborate with Indian musicians. We took inspiration from the popular TV show, The Dewarists,” says Rishi Palan, a student representative for the festival.

Spread across four days, MI Studio’s first performance will witness musician Snehashish Mozumder, who plays the double necked mandolin, collaborating with the band Trania, known for its distinct sound that involves the Maltese flute.

On the third day, four artists from the world music/jazz outfit The Trironos, will jam together. The line-up includes German musicians Marc-Inti Maennel Saavedra and Max Clouth on the acoustic bass and the acoustic guitar respectively, as well as Indian instrumentalists — Vaibhav Wavikar on the cajon, tabla and percussion and Hindol Deb, on the sitar.

The final day will feature Spanish singer-composer Inaki Conejero of the band Spanish Raga joining forces with Indian classical musicians and Carnatic vocalists.
