She shot to fame on the indie music circuit with her 1998 debut pop album, Ho Gayi Hai Mohabbat. Post that, Shibani Kashyap sang for several Bollywood films. Her tracks, Sajna Aa Bhi Jaa from Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II (2003) and Zinda Hoon Main from Zinda (2006), earned her recognition. Currently, the singer is excited about her maiden performance at the Hindustan Times Kala Ghoda Arts Festival on February 13. “My act will be a blend of Sufi folk, jazz and Bollywood music. A five-piece band will perform with me,” she says.
Shibani recently recreated her popular number, Ho Gayi Hai Mohabbat. “I decided to recreate the song and give it a modern sound. It’s an evergreen tune. Each time I perform this track, people are enthralled. Revamping this song was my tribute to love this Valentine’s Day,” she says, adding that she likes revamping old melodies. “The whole idea is to introduce them to the new generation by giving them a modern twist, so that the youth also gets to groove to those melodies and lyrics,” she says.

The singer recently met Ranveer Singh at an event in Mumbai. Recalling their interaction, she says, “It was a delight to meet him. When he saw me, he said, ‘Hey Shibani, how are you? Remember the show we did together a few years ago? It was awesome fun, wasn’t it?’ I was overwhelmed that he remembered me. I congratulated him for his outstanding performance in Bajirao Mastani (2015). I am truly a fan of Ranveer. I love his energy.”

I’m also focusing on releasing some singles. I have started a property on YouTube called Bollyjazz, wherein I do funk-jazz versions of popular old Bollywood songs,” she says.
