Music arranger and composer Anil Mohile, 71, passed away at his Andheri residence on Wednesday after suffering a cardiac arrest early morning.

He is survived by his wife, daughter and son.

Mohile is known for his music arrangement for more than 80 Hindi films including Razia Sultan, Bazaar, Don, Sharaabi and Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. He also conducted music for Lata Mangeshkar’s live concerts.

“We had an association that went back 50 years and shared family ties. He never said no to any request we made. He was a jovial person. I never saw him sad,” Mangeshkar told agencies.

Mohile learnt string instruments such as bul bul tarang from his father when he was young. While studying at DG Ruparel College in the 1960s he got an opportunity to work at All India Radio. There he learnt music arrangement from veteran music composers and experts such as Shrinivas Khale and Shivkumar Punjani. He was known among his peers for understanding and identifying minute notations in a musical composition. He arranged music for composers such as SD Burman, RD Burman and Khayyam.

“He worked extensively with my husband Arun and I was fortunate to be part of their team. He was very helpful and down to earth and was respected in the industry as an arranger and composer,” said singer Anuradha Paudwal.

His son Amar recently arranged music for Ajay Devgn-starrer Singham.
