Sing with Gaga? Who knows: Salim-Sulaiman

Salim-Sulaiman have remixed Born the way... but Salim has no plans of touring India with the pop star, is happy singing his own compositions.

Salim-Sulaiman first made music with Bhoot (2003) but it was their score in Iqbal (2005) that brought them accolades. Now, Salim Merchant, one half of the composer duo, is carving out a niche for himself not as a music director but as a singer. “Singing comes naturally to me. It happened slowly but now I am good enough to sing most of my own songs,” he says.

So far, Salim has crooned tracks like Mar jaawan… (Fashion, 2008), Ali maula… (Kurbaan, 2009), Alisha… (Pyaar Impossible, 2010), Aye Khuda Mujhko Bata… (Paathshala, 2009) and Chak De… (Chak De India, 2007). He says that along with these songs came the realisation that he had a good voice. “And like good wine, I have got better with age. Ainvayi.. from Band Baaja Baaraat (2010) has become a cult song and was big high for me,” he reminisces.

Salim has now sung Khuda Ke Liye… in the forthcoming, Aazaan. His future releases include Love Breakups Zindagi, Heroine, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and Jodi Breakers. The duo has recently done a remixed version of Lady Gaga’s Born this way… and Judas…. Will Salim perfom with Gaga when she tours India? “Right now, no plans, but who knows,” he says. “Music is my life. I love creating and sing songs.”
