Ask Snoop Dogg what he has in store for his first gig in India and all you’ll get is a secretive, “I may have something up my sleeve.” In an interview, the American rapper talks about his gig and what he plans to do in Mumbai.

What are you looking forward to the most in India?
Just the warmth of the people here; I’m a people person, and I believe that to get love, you have to give love. People always respond to my warm personality, so I look forward to rocking shows, giving love and seeing what kind of love India has for Bigg Snoop.

What are your plans tonight?
I’ve been working with the Adidas Originals crew for years now, and I always party with them. I’ve got a high-end private party planned tonight. I know that cricket is big in India. And I’m a huge sports fan. I’m trying to see what’s up with the ballers from the Indian Premier League. You hear me?

‘Snoop Lion is Snoop Dogg all grown up’

Have you visited India before? How do you think people here will receive your music?
I’ve never been to India. There are very few places in the world that I haven’t visited, so this is exciting. I think people there will love my music. They already know Snoop Dogg. I hear from fans in India all the time. Plus, I got to work on Singh Is Kinng (2008) with
Akshay Kumar a couple of years ago.

Are you open to more Bollywood collaborations?
I’m always open to working. I have a few secret projects in the works.

What made you change your name to Snoop Lion?
I’m always going to be Snoop Dogg. Snoop Lion is just Snoop Dogg all grown up and with a more positive vibe.

What can we expect from your next album?
Music runs through me, so as I’ve grown and developed, so has my music. Reincarnated is a reggae album. I’m not rapping in
any of those tracks, and I’m excited to hear how my fans react to it. I really think they’re going to like it. The response to the first
couple of tracks has been really good.

As a music producer, what do you look for in emerging talent?
Talent is important, but passion is number one. Nobody can give that to an artiste. It has to come from within.

Are you focussing more on finding new talent or making your own music?
Last year, I really got into using Soundcloud, listening to the radio and searching the Internet, and I found a bunch of dope artistes out there, who are hungry to be heard. And some of the stuff people sent in inspired me to make music, so they go hand in hand.

I recently discovered a Polish artiste named Iza Lach on the Internet. I’m working with her right now; she’s incredible.

Which new collaborations are you working on?
I had a chance to work with some really special talent for this latest project and I’m excited for everybody to hear it. I don’t want to drop any names. I just want you to listen to the records when they come out.
