“Yadav and his organisation Swadhin Bharat Vidhik Satyagrah (SBVS) received over Rs 22 lakh from an organisation in Cuttack, according to a half-burnt diary recovered from the site of the clashes in Jawahar Bagh in Mathura,” Odisha police director general KB Singh said.

He added that efforts were on to establish the identity of the organisation and take appropriate action.

Police are also looking if funds were being sent to SBVS from other sources in Odisha.

The sect leader and his followers had encroached on over 280 acres of a government park for over two years, building a self-sustained ‘ashram’ growing vegetables and selling wares in markets created by them.

They had stocked sophisticated arms and even created their own justice system.

Opposition Bahujan Samaj Party and the BJP blamed the Uttar Pradesh government led by Samajwadi Party for the incident.
