The district administration is reaching out to people to make them aware of the state order which makes it compulsory for the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited to repair faulty transformers within three days of the complaint received.

“We want to reach out to the public to confirm if the electricity department is doing their job properly or not. According to the state policy, if any transformer stops working, it should be repaired within three days,” said BN Singh, district magistrate.

The umbrella organisation of various residents’ welfare associations in Noida has also welcomed the move hoping that it will bring transparency to the system. “It is a good move by the administration to sort out the issues of residents. People should also be able to inform the sub divisional magistrate in the event of any problem. Officers who do not act on time will be pulled up by the higher authorities,” said AN Dhawan, secretary general, Federation of Noida Residents’ Welfare Associations.

“People can inform us about any non-functional transformer if it has not been attended to on time by the electricity department concerned. Action will be taken against the ones found lax while performing their duties. We want the feedback of the people on whether the state policies have been implemented properly or not,” Singh said.

UPPCL, in its report, has claimed that all the transformers are in good condition and the administration wants to verify its claim from the consumers. Identity of the complainant will be kept confidential, the district magistrate said.
