A 25-year-old man was arrested by the Phase 2 police for allegedly trying to rape a four-year-old girl at her home on August 26. A medical test was ordered for the girl.

According to police, the incident took place in the evening when the girl’s mother was in the kitchen.
“Based on the complaint by the family, the accused was arrested. He allegedly tried to molest the child around 7pm on August 26,” Rajpal Tomar, station house officer, Phase 2 police station, said.
A case was registered under sections 354 (sexual harassment), 376 (punishment for rape), 511 (attempt to commit offence) of the Indian Penal Code along with sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), Act.
The child’s father, a vegetable vendor, was not at home. There was a power outage and when the mother went to check on the girl, the accused was allegedly trying to rape her, the police said.
Police said after the mother shouted for help, the accused fled the spot. “He was arrested later,” the SHO said, adding that a medical test was ordered for the girl.
