Residents and shop owners in various sectors have demanded that the streetlights should be checked regularly and dysfunctional bulbs or tubes should be repaired or replaced immediately.

After receiving complaints from various residential sectors, the federation of Noida residents’ welfare associations (Fonrwa) and shop owners of markets in Sector 18, Sector 29, Atta and other areas have appealed to the Noida authority to repair all dysfunctional lights by April 30.

“Residents in Sector 20, 31, 36, 22, 15 and others have complained that 10 to 15 lights in each sector are not operational. The dark stretches are a serious cause of concern for the residents who have approached their respective RWAs. The RWAs approached engineers concerned but they failed to help them. The engineers claim that there is a shortage of tubes, chokes and starters. They said that these parts get damaged very often and repairing them takes a long time. We have written to the Noida authority to check the streetlights regularly and replace the damaged bulbs. Unfortunately, this is not happening and it is a major concern,” said AN Dhawan, secretary general, Fonrwa.

Hom Singh Yadav, chief maintenance engineer of the Noida authority, admitted that there is a shortage of streetlight parts and this is the main reason for the delay in the repair work.

“We are arranging for bulbs, chokes and starters as complaints are mostly about these three parts. We will procure them soon,” said Yadav.
