PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth win in All England Open; Saina Nehwal out

PV Sindhu defeated Pornpawee Chochuwong 20-22, 21-17, 21-9 to reach the second round of the All England Open badminton in Birmingham on Wednesday.

The Rio Olympics silver medallist came back from a game down to win the second game before cruising through the decider to make it to the second round.

Earlier, Saina Nehwal bowed out of the tournament in the opening round after losing to top seed Tai Tzu-ying of Chinese Taipei.

The Indian shuttler fell behind early on and never managed to make a comeback in the opening game.

Saina, however, made a bright start in the second game and held a slender lead until Tzu-ying moved up a few gears towards the end and overtook her Indian opponent to take the game 21-18.

Kidambi Srikanth, on the other hand, made it to the second round of the tournament after a hard-fought 7-21, 21-14, 22-20 win over Brice Leverdez of France.

B Sai Praneeth also crashed out of the tournament after going down to fifth seed Son Wan-ho of South Korea in the opening round. The Korean shuttler won 13-21, 21-15, 21-11.
