The Indian women’s squash team created history by winning their maiden Asian title after defeating top seed Hong Kong 2-0 in the final in Kuwait on Sunday.
The men’s team, however, went down 0-2 to Pakistan in the final in the 16th Asian Team Squash Championship. In the women’s final, Joshna Chinnappa defeated world No 16 Joey Chan 11-3, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8 to put India 1-0 ahead. Dipika Pallikal then beat world No. 7 Annie Au 11-8, 12-10, 11-8 to seal the deal.
Archers lose in final
Kolkata: After beating formidable South Korea in the semis, the Indian men’s recurve team, consisting of Jayanta Talukdar, Tarundeep Rai and Rahul Banerjee, lost to Great Britain in the final of the World Cup archery Stage 2 meet at Antalya on Sunday. Britain won 222-211.

London: The men’s hockey team ended their London tour without a win as they lost the bronze medal match 1-2 to Great Britain in the four-nation test event ahead of the Olympics on Sunday.
Though V Raghunath had put India ahead in the first half through a field goal, James Tindall brought his side back in the match. Rob Moore scored the winner.
Five Indians qualify
New Delhi: Five Indians qualified for the main draw of the Ten Sports ITF Women’s tournament at the DLTA Complex.
Amrita Mukherjee ousted Chinese Taipei’s Chia Hsen Yang 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 while Shreya Pasricha downed compatriot Tarrannum Handa 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Simran Kaur Sethi got the better of Sai Samhitha Chamarthi 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Eetee Maheta and Ashmitha Easwaramurthi won their respective matches in straight sets.
