Death toll of Italian migrant boat wreck rises to 67, officials say

The boat had set sail from the port of Izmir in western Turkey towards the end of last week.

Italian authorities on Wednesday informed that the death toll of a recent migrant shipwreck near the southern Italian coast has risen to 67. Authorities believe that the boat was carrying up to 200 migrants. (AFP)

The vessel had set sail from Turkey and sank in rough seas before dawn on Sunday near Steccato di Cutro, a seaside resort on the eastern coast of Calabria. (AFP)

Provincial government officials said rescuers had found two more children, bringing the minor victims of Sunday's tragedy to 16. (AFP)
