A technical snag in the aircraft of SpiceJet Pune to Dubai flight left 188 passengers stranded at the Lohegaon airport in the city for at least 14 hours.
The SpiceJet flight that was scheduled to depart at 8 pm on Sunday (April 28), took off the next day at 10 30 am.
After an initial delay, the passengers first boarded the flight at 10.30 pm on Sunday evening and had to remain seated inside the aircraft for nearly four hours. They were asked to disembark after that as the snag couldn’t be rectified.
In an official statement, the airlines said: “SpiceJet flight SG 51 operating Pune to Dubai dated 28th April 2019 was delayed due to a technical issue. Crew FDTL (flight and duty time limitations) and Notam (hazard notification) at Pune airport further delayed the flight’s departure. The flight departed at 10:30 am today. SpiceJet apologises for the inconvenience caused to passengers due to this technical delay.”
Angry passengers protested by raising slogans against SpiceJet. Prashant Marya, one of the travellers took to twitter and appealed to the government to step in and help the passengers. He said, “Over 180 passengers are stuck at Pune Airport from more than 10 hours. All the people including kids, ladies and elderly people are stuck here at the airport.” (sic)
Rajendra Kothari in his tweet sought help from the airlines for his daughter Ankita Kothari who also suffered due to the flight delay, for which airlines said that their team is working to set the situation right.
