Action against hookah parlours, roadside eateries in Koregaon Park

Police have taken action against 26 restaurants and clubs in the past few days.

The Koregaon Park police tightened the noose around late-night joints and hookah parlours as a part of continued action that started last week. Hookah parlours in the area were raided and action was initiated against several of them on Sunday. Restaurants and eateries operating beyond prescribed time limit were also targeted.

The Koregaon Park police have taken action against 26 restaurants and clubs in the past few days.

The restaurants against which action was initiated on Sunday include Hotel Tavern located in Ragvilas Society area of Koregaon Park. A case under Section 5 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Act (COTPA), 2003 was registered against the owner of the restaurant Atul Rohidas Gote and four of the restaurant's customers who were smoking hookah.

The restaurants which were reprimanded for running beyond the prescribed time, include Dario’s, Callow, The Mugshot Lounge and Effingut Brewerkz. The police also initiated action against roadside eateries which were blocking the way of pedestrians. Action under relevant sections of the Bombay Police Act was taken against 21 such eateries.
