Ambedkar, who was among the top speakers at the Elgar Parishad held in Pune on December 31 said that the arrest of the liberal activists has come at a time when the terror activities of Sanatan Sanstha and the Hindutva rightwing have been exposed.

Prominent Dalit leader Prakash Ambedkar on Wednesday said that the arrests of five prominent intellectuals by Pune Police signalled the rise of a fascist state along with smothering of all political parties in the country by the BJP-RSS regime.

President of the Bharipa Bahujan Mahasang, Ambedkar said, with no political opposition left, the government was targeting activists who were offering real opposition to the authoritarian regime.

“The country is sliding into a nightmarish scenario signalling the consolidation and rise of a fascist state,” he said, alleging that the political opposition had been rendered obsolete and paralysed by the central government.

It was the NGOs  and the activists who were doing genuine work and functioning as the real opposition to the government, he said.

Ambedkar, who was among the top speakers at the Elgar Parishad held in Pune on December 31 said that the arrest of the liberal activists has come at a time when the terror activities of Sanatan Sanstha and the Hindutva rightwing have been exposed.

“The government is deliberately carrying out arrests to deflect attention from the Sanatan Sanstha’s involvement in the case,” he said.
