A lunch outing with four friends turned out to be extremely painful for a 31-year-old auto rickshaw driver, who took a bite of his burger and got bits of glass in his mouthful.
According to Sajid Azimuddin Pathan, he along with three of his friends- Ajay Chachale, Sagar Bilor and Rohit Bhosale visited an outlet of a fast food chain on Ferguson College road on May 15. The order was three non-veg and one veg burgers.
As soon as Pathan bit into his burger, he complained of irritation in his throat and spat blood.
The incident took place at 3 pm on Wednesday, but came to light only after Pathan lodged a complaint against the outlet and its employees with the Deccan Gymkhana police station on Sunday.
“When I bit into my burger, I felt a gash and pinch in my throat and spat blood. When i checked the burger I found pieces of broken glass in it. When I approached the staff, a woman employee, pulled out a piece of glass in front of everyone. By that time I was feeling uneasy and started vomiting,” said Pathan.
In his complaint Pathan stated that the fast food chain’s staff are responsible for his injuries. Pathan claims that he spent Rs 35,000 for his treatment.

{{/usCountry}}Senior inspector Deepak Lagad of Deccan Gymkhana police station who is investigating the case said, “We have checked the CCTV footage of the incident and it does prima facie appear that glass pieces were found in the burger but the matter is under investigation.”
According to the police Pathan was initially taken to Deendayal hospital for treatment. On Thursday, he was taken to Sahyadri Hospital. Pathan is out of danger but is still unable to speak.
The Deccan police have lodged an FIR against the area manager, store manager, store supervisor and other staff members under sections 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 34 (an act done with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
