Interactive event at Pune’s Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum attracts visitors

Sudhanva Ranade, director of Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, feels that there is a decrease in the number of visitors at the museum.

Several programmes were organised at the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum on the occasion of International Museum Day which was observed on May 18. Residents flocked to the museum to enjoy the day and gain knowledge about the artefacts.

Col Sushant Dangare, who visited the museum along with his family members, said, “I enjoyed watching the artefacts on display and my children even enjoyed playing ‘Bhatukali cha Khel’ (playing with traditional kitchenware).”

His wife Sanjana, said, “It was interesting to note that my younger daughter thought of a ‘karanji’ cutter to be a pizza cutter. The hands-on demonstrations is a good way to teach children about ancient traditions and culture.”

Anand Kanitkar, heritage consultant who visited the museum, said, “There is a need to organise more such activities to attract visitors. Such interactive events will help visitors understand how to interpret the artefacts on display.”

Saurabh Malik, another visitor from Wakad, said, “I have been living in the city since the past one year and hence, I visited the museum along with my family members. It is interesting to know about Maharashtrian culture through the museum.”
