The elected public representatives belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Priyanka Shrigiri, Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) vice-president, have termed the news related to abolition of cantonment boards in India and their merger with municipal corporations as anti democratic and anti public conspiracy by the land mafia. They added that a delegation of the elected members will meet defence minister in connection with the propaganda.

Shrigiri said that it is the statutory that the facts and future of any cantonment is to be decided as contained in Section 10, 11 and 12 of the Cantonments Act, 2006. It is a prominent Act passed by the Parliament and hence it is up to the government of India and the central Cabinet to take the necessary decision about the cantonment and not any department or organisation of the government of India.

The members further said that PCB has its glorious history and heritage in providing high quality civil services to the public. During the last few years, the Pune Cantonment Board has set its goal to be a smart cantonment and members said that they have achieved this target by executing so many public-oriented projects and services across the city.

If these three cantonments are converted into Military Stations, then all roads inside these cantonments will be at the mercy of the Army Authorities, the members added. Present on the occasion were elected members, comprising Dilip Girimkar, Atul Gaikwad and Dr Kiran Mantri.
