Descendent of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Udayanraje Bhosale, who is also a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) member of Parliament from Satara, on Sunday warned the government not to delay the decision on Maratha reservation. He also warned of the agitation taking an extremely violent turn, along the lines of the “naxal movement” leading to an out-of-control situation.
Representatives of various Maratha outfits met in Pune on Sunday and decided to send their demands to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. The meeting was chaired by Bhosale.
Bhosale said, “The movement is on the verge of going out of hand and therefore the government must not delay on taking a call any further. If it takes more time, the same movement will not take much time to convert into a violent movement, like the Naxal movement.”
The NCP MP said that a letter, endorsed by the members of Maratha Kranti Morcha, an umbrella organisation, will be sent to the chief minister of Maharashtra, stating the community’s stand and future course of agitation.
Citing the delay in getting reservation for the community, Bhosale said the onus of giving reservation to Maratha is on the government, judiciary and bureaucracy.
“Marathas have waited for the reservation for three decades and it has seen the government, judiciary and bureaucracy pointing fingers at each other when it comes to taking decision. It is time these three pillars of democracy come together and take the decision. If they cannot give the reservation to the community, they should at least make it clear before the Marathas,” added Bhosale.
