My father (Antolin) would encourage me to play the sport as a three-year-old toddler in the house. I remember it being chaotic but fun. This is how my passion for the game grew. When I turned five, I moved to football grounds, and at the age of 13, I was picked by Real Madrid. I played my first game with the team in 2002 in a friendly match against Sevilla,” shares Spanish footballer Marcos Tébar.

As a teenager, Tébar remembers visiting stadiums to view matches and recollects how watching live games helped him understand the game better. “As a member of the academy and team, we would get free passes to games. I would keenly observe players and referees to gain more knowledge about the sport,” says Tebar, who never followed a regimen as such when he was young.

A day in his life
The FC Pune City player starts his normal day with orange juice, eggs and green tea. The defensive midfielder follows this with a training session and a protein-rich lunch and dinner. “The idea is to supply the body with enough carbohydrates and proteins depending on the type of training for the day. It generally translates to ‘the harder the training the stricter the diet’,” says Tébar , who loves chocolates and has one cheat day in his diet in a week.
