The irrigation department which enforced water cut in Pune has now taken a U-turn. Considering the Lok Sabha elections that will begin in April, the irrigation department has now allowed 1,350 MLD (Millions of litres per day) water in the city.
The irrigation department on Monday took a review meeting of the existing water stock in the Khadakwasla dam and decided to supply 1,350 MLD water. The decision was taken despite the absence of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officers.
The PMC officers and the irrigation department officers refused to comment, despite our repeated attempts to call them.
In December 2018, the irrigation department asked the PMC to supply only 1,100 MLD water in the city. Despite a lot of opposition from the residents, the irrigation department remained firm on its decision. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis also opposed the decision.
