Teen set ablaze by girl’s family to oppose love affair

A 19-year-old boy was allegedly set ablaze by the parents of a teenager he was involved with. The injured teen was identified as Kismat Shabbir Khan, a resident of Tannu Nirsigpur area of Indapur.

Two of the three accused people were identified as Pallavi and Santosh Ghorpade, while the third was identified only as Raghav.

The boy’s current medical condition could not be confirmed immediately. Khan, who works in a butcher’s shop, was allegedly involved with Komal Ghorpade, daughter of the accused couple. The Ghorpade couple called the boy to their house and asked him to stay away from their daughter before hurling abuses at him and dousing him in kerosene and setting him ablaze, according to his complaint.

The incident took place on May 3 at the Ghorpade family’s residence in Tannu Adoba vasti in Narsigpur region of Indapur. Khan is undergoing treatment at Solapur Civil Hospital. A medico-legal case (MLC) was sent to a local police station at Solapur based on Khan’s statement.

A complaint in the matter was recorded on Sunday at Sadar Bazar police station under Solapur police jurisdiction. However, the case was transferred to Indapur police station under Pune rural police jurisdiction later on Monday.

Subsequently, a case under Sections 307 (attempted murder), 504 (insult with an intention of provoking breach of peace) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code was registered at Indapur police station.
