The lane going towards legacy hotel near Datta Mandir chowk in Viman Nagar is slowly losing its green cover, residents from the locality have complained. In April this year, a tree was chopped off in the night while last week, yet another tree was axed, leaving the local residents miffed.

Earlier, when PMC had cut a tree, residents approached the Garden department of PMC with photographs and they were told that the fire department had cut it down as it was dangerously close to falling off. “I told the authorities that the excuse they have cited was false. It was a good healthy tree and it was definitely not about to fall on any one,” said Anil Hoshangabade, a resident of Lunkad Colonnade.

Another resident, who did not wished to be named, said, “Our lane is tree lined with flowering and green trees, atleast eight on each side of the lane, but sadly, some of them are getting axed.”

Now, around four days ago, yet another tree was hacked. “It was a perfectly good tree. When I asked around, even the officials had no reply. In fact, the PMC officials requested me to let them know the landmark and the area for them to make an inquiry. My basic question is why are the trees being cut?,” the resident said.
