Led by chairperson Harjinder Kaur, a team of the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) visited Government Medical College and Hospital ( GMCH), Sector 32, to check arrangements in place for the treatment of the 10-year-old rape survivor, who is now 33 weeks pregnant.
Kaur, who spent almost an hour at the hospital, said: “Now that I’ve seen the One Stop Crisis Centre (OSCC), I am satisfied with the services being provided at GMCH-32.” Hospital officiating director-principal Dr AK Janmeja said: “We have an OSCC for the past two-and-a-half years. As a very few cases are reported, we use it for both adults and children.”Meanwhile, after the child welfare committee (CWC) highlighted the need to shift the girl out of her house, which it deemed unhygienic, GMCH-32 has offered free treatment to the girl.
SC order mentions hospital
Even as the hospital has no written instructions, the Supreme Court judgment that rejected the girl’s abortion plea and has been uploaded online clearly mentions that GMCH-32 will treat her.
“We are informed that she (girl) is being treated at the Government Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, which we are satisfied is fully equipped to render the best medical aid possible,” the order reads. “The child has not been shifted to the hospital yet,” said Dr Janmeja. “But we have all facilities in place and have decided to provide her free treatment.” However, the victim’s father is keen on her treatment at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). He had expressed this to CWC members, who said that since the man worked at the houses of some GMCH doctors he was hesitant to bring his daughter to the hospital. Dr Janmeja said doctors at the hospital have been examining the child since the crime came to light and he has already formed a team of experts to deal with the case.

{{/usCountry}}“The room (for the girl) is divided into three areas: reception, counselling and examination/resuscitation. One door opens into the ultrasound room. Technicians visit the room to collect blood samples. We ensure that the victim gets all facilities at one place,” he said.
