They have been identified as 24-year-old Sonu, a recovery agent at Idea showroom, and 24-year-old Raju, a DJ operator; both residents of Sunet village.

The deceased’s families alleged that the policemen stationed at the bridge near Verka Milk Plant refused to chase the car by giving the lame excuse of “not getting the car keys”. They alleged that the police inaction led to the death of the two who kept lying in a pool of blood after being hit.

Hundreds of protesters from Sunet village blocked Ferozepur Road triggering a massive jam for more than two hours. Protesters were up in arms against the police’s failure in tracing the car till the afternoon.

A few villagers alleged that the policemen deployed with the light machine gun (LMG) vehicle did not help the dying youths or take them to hospital, leading to their death.

Pappu, Sonu’s father, said, “The police did nothing to trace the accused. The police commissioner should take strict action against the policemen deployed at the LMG vehicle. Policemen instead of helping the victims told passersby to report to the nearby police station.”

Deputy commissioner of police Narinder Bhargav said he had marked the case to ADCP-3; police had started the investigation and the accused would be arrested soon.
