This is the second instance of a strike since November last, when a strike was organised after being left unpaid for three months.

The MC often fails to release the salaries of its employees as it has comparatively less sources of income than its expenditure.

A protest march was also organised on Wednesday.

"Besides it, we have also not been paid the balance amount of our dearness allowances, ex gratia grant to the employees who have died, which is supposed to be released by the municipal committee immediately," he alleged."

"The employees are getting notices for not paying the installments of their insurance installments which are due to for about nine months but these are being deducted from our salaries," alleged Nirmal Kumar, general secretary of the union.

"The employees have been issued the cheques for DA installments. Their salaries are also being released and the problem would be resolved soon," said Harjeet Singh Sandhu, SDM Kotkapura, administrator of Kotkapura MC.
