With 31 new dengue-fever cases reported from SAS Nagar on Tuesday, the number of patients suffering from the disease is now 825. The figure is for this calendar year.

The number of dengue cases till Tuesday evening has already crossed last year’s figure of 544 patients till November-end. The authorities attribute the rise in number of cases to increased awareness and early diagnosis.

To cope with the outbreak, the administration has issued directions to intensify fogging. As the alarming spread of the disease continues, health authorities pin the blame on residents. “The dengue-carrying mosquito breeds inside the house, so the fight against the disease has to be a joint effort of the residents and the administration. Residents must not let clean water stagnate in their houses,” said SAS Nagar DC DS Mangat.

The administration had issued directions to observe every Friday as dry day to clean coolers, trays kept under the flower pots, tyres, and other utensils, but the effort has not borne fruit.
