The Patiala police has arrested seven members of a gang allegedly involved in the distribution of fake currency and seized fake currency notes of the face value of Rs 10.65 lakh.
Disclosing it, SSP Hardial Singh Mann said that the gang was operating with the help of Pakistan-based ISI agency, which is involved in the distribution of fake currency at international level in India.
The accused were also smuggling from Pakistan through Nepal border, apart from using the Punjab border to bring counterfeit notes, which they sometimes, also print here in India.'
Mann informed that police acting on secret information has intercepted a Swift Dzire car no. PB-35L-3077 coming from Ambala side and arrested Jatinder Singh, Kahnuwal, Gurdaspur, Sukhdeep Singh and Sunny Kumar, residents of Pathankot and recovered fake currency note.
On investigating the matter police have arrested the other associate of the gang who use to supply the fake currency notes in the market. Those arrested are idenftied as Ajay Jatial, a resident of Kathua (Jammu), Romi Salaria and Gurpreet Singh of Pathankot and Amandeep Singh of Gurdaspur.
During preliminary investigation it came to light that Jatinder Singh is the head of this racket and had brought this currency from Rahim R/o Anantnang (J & K) who is an agent of Pakistan based agency I.S.I and got a wide distribution network of fake currency all over the country. Rahim has agents in Nepal and West Bengal through which the delivery/smuggling of the fake currency is done.

{{/usCountry}}The gang had bought the fake currency note of Rs 100/- at the rate of 60/-Rs per Indian currency and had to deliver it in the areas of Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Jammu & Kashmir. Earlier also they had delivered around Rs 23.50 lacs of fake currency through Rahim and had supplied in various part of the country, said SSP saying that police has shared the leads with different agenices to nab the other accused indulging in this anti-national activity.
