Long queues of students were witnessed outside the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) depot at Punjabi Bhawan on Tuesday, a day prior to the deadline for submission of compartment fee of Classes 10 and 12.
The last date to submit the fee is December 14, and the parents and students have requested the district education officer (DEO), secondary, Sarabjit Singh to extend the date further.
Approximately 2,000 boys and girls from the city and peripheral areas gathered there to submit the fee.
An official requesting anonymity, said, “The depot officials said they had started receiving the forms from 9am onwards. To handle the rush, the book depot official has opened four counters at different places in Punjabi Bhawan to accept the compartment examination fee.”
A parent, Arvinder Singh, who came from Jagraon to submit the forms rued, “I was standing in the queue since morning and my turn came in the afternoon. The depot officials were not accepting Rs 2,000 banknote, so I submitted the fee of Rs 1,300 by arranging 13 banknotes of hundred denomination. I have requested the DEO, secondary, to ask the board officials to extend the date to submit the fee.”
Talking to Hindustan Times, Baljinder Singh, manager, PSEB depot, said, “As the pages in receipt book exhausted, we have issued receipt to only 20 students and around 2,000 students deposited the fee today. Students have been instructed to collect the receipt tomorrow from the depot. We have now arranged the receipts from the board and will issue the same to the students on Wednesday.”

{{/usCountry}}PSEB chairperson, Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal, said, “We have extended the date several times and now we will not extend the date. The last date to submit the fee is tomorrow. We have to conduct the exams and if we will keep extending the dates then when will we conduct the exams.”
Around 9,683 students failed in Class 12 PSEB exams this year. According to the board’s information, total 38,095 students appeared from Ludhiana district and 28,412 passed in the exam. This time, number of girls who appeared in the exam was 17,373, and boys are 20,722. Out of which, 14,326 girls and 14,086 boys passed the exam. The passing percentage declined by 2.13%. In Class 10, 42890 students appeared in the board exam and 15,102 students failed in the exam.
