Nisha, wife of Bikram Kumar of Dhanaula town in Barnala district, the man accused of hurling a shoe towards chief minister Parkash Singh Badal at Issru village on August 15, has expressed fear for her husband's life.
She alleged that the police registered a false case of assaulting a policeman on duty, that too after two days of the incident just to harass them. Nisha feared that her husband could be murdered in jail.
Nisha, who was at Khanna to file a bail plea, said throwing a shoe at anyone is not a civilised way to express anger, adding that Bikram could be punished for this offence, but since it was not a cognizable offence, he had been implicated in a false case of attacking a policeman and tearing off his uniform.
"Police have refused to provide me any details and I was not even given a copy of the FIR. On repeated pleas, they said everything had been mentioned in the FIR but did not give me a copy," she alleged. "If denied bail, the family would meet chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. I am going to meet the chief minister soon," she said.
DIG Ludhiana range GS Dhillon accepted that throwing a shoe is not a cognizable offence, thus it is not part of the FIR. He said the prime offence was misbehaviour and attack on the police party. The police had taken two days to examine the complaint filed by the sub-inspector; so, the case was registered on August 17, he added.
