After Jhelum Express incident, railways jumps to action

After the incident of the derailment of 10 coaches of Jhelum Express near Sutlej River in Phillaur on October 4, the railway authorities have woken up and are putting efforts to replace all the broken railroad sleepers with the new ones.

After the incident of the derailment of 10 coaches of Jhelum Express near Sutlej River in Phillaur on October 4, the railway authorities have woken up and are putting efforts to replace all the broken railroad sleepers with the new ones.

Apart from the duty of the engineering department to keep regular check on the tracks, divisional railway manager Anuj Prakash is conducting the inspection. On Saturday, he started the journey from Atari railway station and checked the tracks till Jalandhar station.

Prakash said they will take no more risks, all the broken railroad sleepers will be replaced. The inspection from Jalandhar Cantt till Ludhiana station will be carried.

On October 4, the railway workers had repaired the rail line which was broken in more than five parts and installed steel railroad sleepers on temporary basis on the 270 meter damaged stretch.

A few days ago , on the orders of AK Puthia, general manager northern railway, three railway officers of engineering department ;SPS Batra, senior divisional engineer; Manish Kumar, section engineer, Jalandhar and Vivek Kumar, section engineer, Ludhiana, were suspended on the basis of initial investigation for their alleged negligence.

However, the enquiry team of three officers of northern railway will investigate on October 14 to declare the actual cause.
