After failing to meet the deadline for opening the urban sewa kendras for multiple times, the Punjab government is set to start the departmental trial run of the software and hardware from July 29, while formal inauguration of the kendras will take in all districts on August 12 by the chief minister, the deputy CM and other ministers. Keeping eye on assembly elections, the state government has provided the infrastructure to private companies for the launching of these centres.
To review the preparations done by these private firms, Punjab chief secretary Sarvesh Kaushal visited several sewa kendras across the district on Tuesday. On his visit, Kaushal reviewed the centres at Model Town and near Government ITI in the city and also visited some centers at Rajpura town of the district.
Deputy commissioner (DC) Ramvir Singh, ADC Mohinderpal, MC commissioner Parminder Singh Gill, naib tehsildar Rajesh Nehra along with other administrative officials were also accompanying Kaushal during his visit in Patiala district.
The chief secretary informed that these would start functioning from July 29 and would provide as many as 62 services in the starting phase. “After a month, these kendras will reach their peak load and will provide 300 services to the citizens,” said Kaushal.
He added the government had constructed 389 unified sewa kendras (USK) in urban areas in the state to provide hassle-free services for every department at people’s doorstep. “The ambitious plan will provide many government services to people near their homes. Every citizen will get a token after reaching the centre and will be facilitated for his work without any hassle,” said the CS.
