The poll campaign in Punjab may have ended but the war of words between the two principal contestants from Amritsar Lok Sabha seat continues, with Congress candidate Capt Amarinder Sigh lashing out at his BJP rival Arun Jaitley for his comments on Priyanka Gandhi, daughter of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, wherein he has accused her of being arrogant.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Amarinder said that Jaitley should better introspect about his own attitude that smacks of sheer arrogance.

He said that he had known both Priyanka and her brother Rahul Gandhi (Congress vice-president) since their childhood and both of them are known for their friendliness and highly affable manners.

Moreover, he said, Priyanka had exhibited her affable and friendly manners umpteen times at the way she mingles and mixes up with common people and even with the workers of opposition parties like Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP, who throng her public meetings.

The former chief minister said Jaitley should rather introspect and recall when he himself did last shake hands with a common party worker that included his own supporters. "I can recall, as recently as during the Lok Sabha elections in Amritsar, people telling me that he (Jaitley) would either not at all extend his hand for a hand-shake with common workers or would do that quite reluctantly", he added.

"It is so characteristic of Jaitley that even in Amritsar, he would brag about challenging me to debate on national issues only to retreat the same time and talk about drugs and drinking water in Amritsar at the end of the day", he remarked.

"They actually do not have anything against Priyanka who has outclassed them in Amethi and now they are trying to resort to the cheap methods of personal attacks", he observed while advising Jaitely to better come out with something substantial rather than resorting to baseless allegations which nobody is going to accept.
