The cut-offs for BA course in two government colleges of the city has increased as compared to last two years and there is a massive rise in number of students opting for this stream.
After BCom, students from the commerce background prefer to opt for BA and at SCD Government College, the cut-off for general category is 75.2%, and that for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Backward Class (BC) categories, it is 71% and 74%, respectively.
Last year, the cut-off was 69% and in 2012 it was 63.4% in general category. All 480 seats for BA were filled at the college on Monday.
Rajinder Singh, principal at SCD Government College, said: “In BA, the cut-off has gone high as compared to last year and students, who are not getting admission in BCom and BCA, are opting for BA. So the percentage of BA has gone high. In MCom, the cut-off for general category is 80.02% and that for SC category it is 73.67%.”
Government College for Girls (GCG) declared the merit list for BA on Monday and the cut-off for general category is 83.77% and that for SC and BC categories, it is 77.77% and 81.11%, respectively. There are a total of 480 seats for the course in the college and interviews will be conducted on Wednesday.

{{/usCountry}}Situation is no different in private colleges as after being rejected for BCom and BSc (medical and non-medical), students at Arya College are opting for BA. College principal RC Tejpal said: “All BCom seats were filled on Monday and students, who didn’t get admission in BCom course, are opting for BA.”
