Facing difficulty in interrogating the two Romania nationals held for ATM rigging in Chandigarh, police have called a translator from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.
A cop privy to investigations said earlier they approached the department concerned in Panjab University to help them translate the language, but it didn’t bear fruit as the accused are speaking a dialect that is a mix of Hungarian and Romanian.
The translator from Delhi is expected to arrive on Monday, said the police official.
The two Romanian nationals — Miclea Lecian Lonut and Paraschiv George Aletandru, both 37 — were arrested from Delhi by the Chandigarh crime branch on Friday night.
Hunt on for aide
Meanwhile, despite the language barrier, stringent questioning of the accused has revealed that they were being aided by another person who speaks fluent English. This accomplice made their travel arrangements and procured skimming machines (for collecting credit and debit card data).
The Chandigarh police crime branch has initiated a search operation to nab the accomplice. He is suspected to be present in Delhi and its neighbouring areas.
