The city police on Saturday recovered `17.50 lakh of `21.77 lakh that robbers had taken away from a Punjab National Bank (PNB) rural branch near here on Monday (February 9), and arrested four accused.
The crime had occurred at Dyal Bharang village on road connecting Ajnala and Fatehgarh Churian. Sandeep of Patti in Tarn Taran district; and Malkit Singh, Jagdeep Singh Judge, and Buta Singh Lati, all of Vairowal in Tarn Taran, are the men under arrest. "We also seized three pistols, a revolver, and 100 cartridges from them," Amritsar police commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh told the media here.
A team led by additional deputy commissioner of police (crime) JS Walia and including ACP (crime) Harjit Singh Dhariwal and inspector Gurwinder Singh, in charge of the CIA (crime investigation agency) staff is given the credit of solving the case. It laid its trap on Daburji Road near Sultanwind village, and after the accused drove through the barrier when their car was flagged down, captured them in a chase.

{{/usCountry}}Lati was out on parole and supposed to return to jail on January 3, while Malkit Singh is an absconder. The police would seek their custody after producing them in a court. "We hope to make more recoveries after interrogating them in the days to come," said the police commissioner.
