A Class-12 student of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 27, was suspended after he allegedly thrashed a female teacher on the school premises on Thursday.

Junior basic training (JBT) teacher Neelam Sharma asked the 17-year-old student of humanities stream, to attend the class instead of sitting in the corridor. On this he started misbehaving with her. She called the principal who asked the student to undergo medical examination, but he ran away. After around 10-15 minutes, the boy returned to the school after scaling a boundary wall and allegedly hit the teacher on her face and also pushed her.

In her complaint to the police, the teacher alleged: “The boy hit me on my face in front of other teachers during recess. Blood started coming from my nose. He hit me under the influence of alcohol.”

Principal Sunita Singh said: “The student was apparently drunk. While police are doing its job, I have suspended him from the school till the matter is sorted. A report has also been submitted to the education department.”

President of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers’ Welfare Association Arvind Rana said: “We strongly condemn the incident and demand strong action against the student for attacking the teacher on school premises in working hours.”

“We also met secretary education BL Sharma who assured full support to teachers and also talked to the inspector general to take the action against the student,” he added.

However, the boy’s father, Subodh Jha, who works as a peon in the police department, Panchkula, said: “The school is cooking up stories to harass my ward. How can they say that he came to school under the influence of alcohol? I know my child and he can never do this.”

He added: “The teacher used to call my ward ‘Bihari’ and drug addict. I had even met the teacher in the school and had asked her to not to embarrass him like that. My son has not returned home after school and we are tracing him. Police are after him. The police are also harassing my family.”
