With a local court sending one of the persons accused for booking a container for Singapore on the basis of fake documents on Monday, teams of Kurukshetra police are raiding various places in Uttar Pradesh to nab other members of the gang.
Accused Rajnish Singh was in police remand for the past two days.
Police said that Narinder Dhingra - a partner in Dhingra Exports - of Pipli, Kurukshetra, had filed a complaint with the police on March 29 that Rajnish had cheated him by booking a container in his firm's name by using fake documents to export rice to Singapore.
The police also recovered a laptop containing fake documents of Dhingra Exports.
The police are tight lipped about the outcome of Singh's two-day interrogation and maintain that it is still investigating the case.
It has been reported that some officials of the custom department may be involved in the scandal.
Police are also working on the theory that the container may have been booked for smuggling sandal wood or some narcotic drugs out of the country.
Rajnish is reported to have told the police that he only created fake documents and was promised a sum of Rs 2.50 lakh for each container booked.
The police are also searching for one Sanjiv, a resident of Delhi, who according to Rajnish, had asked him to prepare the fake documents.
